A beautiful drawing or painting is not the product of talent but of ability.<\/i>\u00a0“Talent” is something you have to be born with, but “ability” can be learned and developed. Not everyone will become a master, but we’ve never had a student who simply “can’t draw” – those who persevere, improve.<\/p>\n\n\t\tLOGIC IS YOUR FRIEND.\n\t<\/h1>\n\t
Well-crafted realism is not about being “artsy”. It’s not the product of instinct or intuition, nor is it about spontaneous self-expression. Instead, realism requires the application of logical principles, married with observation. It’s the product of thought, not emotion.<\/p>\n
We take a “show don’t tell” approach to teaching at Vitruvian Studio. All our instructors are working artists and we practice what we teach. Our courses feature lots of demonstration so students can actually see what to do, not just hear about it.<\/p>\n
We’re all here to learn. Some of us are further down the road than others, but no one’s work is flawless. We love to help our students with constructive insights, and we’ll always<\/i>\u00a0point out what you did right, as well as what you should work on.<\/p>\n\n\t\tGOOD THINGS TAKE TIME.\n\t<\/h1>\n\t
Creating an illusion can’t be done quickly. Building structure – then lighting it convincingly – takes time, thought, and patience. That’s why our online courses run full-length with very little edited out of the demonstrations. We want our students to see that careful work unfolds slowly, despite how it may appear\u00a0on instructional DVD’s or time-lapse videos.<\/p>\n
A good teacher can tell you what to do, explain why, and show you how. But nobody learns to draw by just watching and listening. Like any other skill, drawing ability is developed through practice, patience, and perseverance. We’ll show you what to work on, but the work has to come from you.<\/p>\n
